Tensions in Niger State’s political leadership have escalated as Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba has reportedly vacated his official residence amid growing friction with Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago. Sources within the state government suggest that Garba may be considering resignation, further deepening the political crisis currently gripping the administration.

The Deputy Governor's sudden departure from his official apartment in Minna occurred over the weekend and was confirmed by senior aides who requested anonymity. Although no formal resignation has been submitted, the move signals a potentially significant shift in the state's executive dynamics.

"This is not a decision taken lightly," said a close associate of the Deputy Governor. "The Deputy Governor has endured months of strained relations and exclusion from key decisions. The current situation is unsustainable."

Reports of discord between Governor Bago and Deputy Governor Garba have circulated for months, with insiders citing deep disagreements over policy direction, governance style, and internal party affairs. The All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership in Niger State has yet to comment officially on the matter.

Observers warn that Garba’s potential resignation could destabilize the state’s executive branch and fuel political uncertainty ahead of key legislative and development milestones.

Efforts by journalists to reach Deputy Governor Garba and Governor Bago for comments have so far been unsuccessful. However, the Niger State House of Assembly is reportedly monitoring the situation closely and may intervene if the rift threatens governance.
