Members of the Niger Delta Environmental Justice Coalition staged a peaceful demonstration in London yesterday, calling for justice for Ikerete Udo, a coordinator with Tantita Security Services Ltd., who was tragically killed while protecting Nigeria’s vital oil infrastructure. The activists submitted a petition to the Nigerian High Commission, urging swift action to investigate the murder and prosecute those responsible.

Speaking on behalf of the coalition, Mrs. Busayo Charles expressed profound grief over Udo’s death, describing it as a senseless act linked to criminal elements involved in oil bunkering. “Udo was killed in the line of duty while safeguarding Nigeria’s oil pipelines. We demand a thorough investigation and justice for his family,” she stated.

The petition emphasized the urgent need for accountability to deter future violence against security personnel protecting critical national assets. The coalition also commended Tantita Security Services for supporting Udo’s family and called on the Nigerian government to provide additional assistance. “Udo’s sacrifice must not be in vain. His family deserves compensation and assurance that his death will not go unpunished,” the petition read.

In addition to seeking justice for Udo, the activists urged the Nigerian government to address growing instability in the Niger Delta region. They highlighted the need to hold accountable those allegedly inciting unrest and launching malicious media campaigns against High Chief Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo), Chairman of Tantita Security Services Ltd., and Dr. Dennis Brutu Otuaro, Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme.
