In a powerful display of unity and compassion, prominent Nigerian clerics, including Bishop Mike Okonkwo, Archbishop Ayo Oritsejafor, and Pastor Wale Kasali, have joined forces to raise significant funds in support of victims of insecurity in Northern Nigeria.
The initiative, which was launched during a special interdenominational gathering in Abuja, brought together religious leaders, civil society groups, and humanitarian organizations with a shared mission: to alleviate the suffering of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and communities devastated by insurgency, banditry, and communal violence in the region.
Speaking at the event, Bishop Mike Okonkwo emphasized the urgent need for faith leaders to take concrete steps toward national healing. “Beyond prayers, we must act. Our people are suffering—losing their homes, loved ones, and futures. This is a call to duty,” he said.
Archbishop Oritsejafor echoed this sentiment, urging other well-meaning Nigerians to contribute to the cause. “This is not a political statement—it’s a humanitarian one. We cannot close our eyes to the pain in the North. We must bring hope,” he remarked.
The fundraising drive, which has already garnered millions of naira in pledges and donations, aims to provide immediate relief including food supplies, shelter, education support, and medical care for displaced families. The coalition also announced plans to establish rehabilitation and empowerment programs focused on trauma healing, skills acquisition, and reintegration.
Pastor Wale Kasali noted that transparency and accountability would be central to the effort. “We are partnering with credible NGOs and community leaders to ensure every kobo is used for its intended purpose,” he said.
