The Borno State Government has announced that over the past three years, more than 300,000 individuals associated with Boko Haram have surrendered and reintegrated into society. Governor Babagana Zulum shared this development during a high-level security meeting in Maiduguri, attended by the Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar, and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa.

Governor Zulum emphasized that while many of those who surrendered were former insurgents, a significant number were civilians, including farmers, who had been caught in the conflict. He acknowledged the military’s ongoing efforts but warned that Boko Haram terrorists are regrouping in the Tumbus areas around Lake Chad and the Mandara Hills in Sambisa Forest.

The governor called for urgent action to address security challenges, urging the military to strengthen both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies to prevent further insurgent activities. He highlighted the need for additional trained personnel, fighter helicopters, attack drones, and anti-drone technology to counter emerging threats.
