Popular Nigerian businessman and socialite, Emeka Okonkwo, widely known as E-Money, has been released from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following his invitation over alleged abuse of the Nigerian currency, the naira.
E-Money was invited by the EFCC earlier this week in connection with a viral video that surfaced online, allegedly showing him spraying naira notes at a high-profile social event, an act that is considered a violation of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) regulations under the CBN Act.
According to EFCC officials, E-Money fully cooperated with investigators and provided statements regarding the incident. After preliminary questioning and verification, he was released pending further investigation.
In a statement issued through his legal counsel, E-Money maintained his innocence, stating, “I hold the laws of Nigeria in the highest regard. I am confident that the truth will prevail, and I look forward to clearing my name.”
