The Rivers State House of Assembly has officially issued an impeachmentnotice, accusing Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his Deputy, Dr. Ipalibo Harry, of gross misconduct in their respective official duties. The decision was made after a thorough investigation by the Assembly, which found evidence that the actions of the two officials have violated constitutional and legal standards.

In the official notice issued on Monday, the Assembly detailed several allegations of misconduct and abuse of office, including alleged financial mismanagement, unethical conduct, and failure to uphold the responsibilities entrusted to them by the people of Rivers State. The Assembly has stated that these actions have significantly impacted the governance of the state, undermined public trust, and contravened the law.

The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Ikuinyi-Owaji Ibani, in a press briefing, emphasized that the decision was not made lightly and was driven by the need to uphold the rule of law and ensure accountability in the state's leadership. "Our primary duty is to the people of Rivers State, and when those in power fail to meet the expectations of the people or violate their constitutional duties, we have no choice but to take the necessary steps to preserve democracy and good governance," Hon. Ibani stated.

The Assembly has called for a special sitting to commence impeachment proceedings, during which both Governor Fubara and Deputy Governor Harry will be given an opportunity to defend themselves against the charges.
