The Kebbi State Government has officially confirmed that the ongoing meningitis outbreak has claimed 26 lives, with over 200 reported cases in the state. Health authorities are working tirelessly to contain the situation and prevent further spread of the disease.

The outbreak, which has been affecting several local government areas, was first detected in early March. The state’s Ministry of Health has since activated emergency response protocols, including increasing surveillance, providing treatment to affected individuals, and launching public awareness campaigns to educate the public on prevention measures.

Dr. Ahmed Usman, the Commissioner for Health in Kebbi State, stated, “Our primary concern is to prevent further loss of life and to ensure that those affected receive the care they need. We are working closely with the federal government, health organizations, and local communities to provide rapid response and support.”

The Ministry of Health has assured the public that the state is receiving additional medical supplies, including vaccines and antibiotics, to address the outbreak. Health workers are also being deployed to high-risk areas to administer vaccines and provide support to patients. The government is also urging the public to seek immediate medical attention if symptoms, including fever, headache, vomiting, and neck stiffness, are observed.

To mitigate the impact of the outbreak, health officials are focusing on improving sanitation, ensuring access to clean water, and promoting proper hygiene practices. The government has also announced that schools and public gatherings in affected regions will be closely monitored to prevent further spread.
