Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has strongly denied claims that he received any formal ultimatum from pro-Wike lawmakers regarding the 2025 state budget. In a statement issued today, Governor Fubara clarified that he first became aware of the notice through social media platforms, and not through any direct communication from the legislators.

The controversy surrounding the 2025 budget escalated when a group of lawmakers, said to be aligned with the former Governor, Nyesom Wike, issued a statement alleging that Governor Fubara had been given an ultimatum to ensure that the budget is presented before the Rivers State House of Assembly. The lawmakers reportedly threatened to take action if their demands were not met in the specified time frame.

In response, Governor Fubara emphasized that no official notice or ultimatum was received through the proper channels. "I want to make it absolutely clear that I have not been served any formal ultimatum by any lawmaker. I saw the notice circulating on social media, just as many of you did," the governor said in his statement.

Governor Fubara reiterated his commitment to working collaboratively with the Rivers State House of Assembly to ensure the swift passage of the budget, acknowledging the critical importance of the 2025 budget for the continued growth and development of Rivers State. He stressed that the state government remains focused on delivering on its promises to the people, without being distracted by political maneuvers.

The governor called for calm and urged all stakeholders to allow for a constructive dialogue that will lead to the swift approval of the 2025 budget. "We remain committed to fostering a stable and productive relationship with all members of the Assembly. Our priority is the welfare and progress of the people of Rivers State," he stated.
