In response to the escalating security concerns in the state, Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has announced an immediate ban on all political activities, including rallies, processions, and gatherings. The decision comes amid growing security threats posed by insurgent groups and criminal activities that have jeopardized the safety of citizens and hindered daily operations across the state.

The Governor, in a statement issued earlier today, expressed deep concern over the impact of ongoing insecurity on the lives and livelihoods of the people of Zamfara. He emphasized that while political activities are essential for a thriving democracy, they must not come at the cost of the safety and well-being of citizens.

“While political engagement and democratic processes are vital to the development of our state, the current security situation demands urgent and decisive action. We cannot, in good conscience, allow political gatherings that may further destabilize the situation or put lives at risk,” Governor Lawal stated.

The ban includes all political rallies, public demonstrations, and campaigns, particularly in regions where insecurity is most prevalent. The Governor urged all political parties, their supporters, and other stakeholders to cooperate with the state government in prioritizing peace and security in the state.

Governor Lawal reiterated that the government is committed to working with security agencies to tackle the root causes of violence and criminality in Zamfara. He called for a collective effort from all citizens to ensure the security of the state, emphasizing that peace must be restored before any further political activities are permitted.
