The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is making an unprecedented move in its fight against corruption, announcing a strategic shift in its operations, metaphorically described as “EFCC Eagle Goes Veggie.” In a bold statement today, Dr. Nasiru Aminu, Head of Communications at the EFCC, revealed that the agency is adopting new, more sustainable methods for tackling corruption in the country.

“Big thieves are officially off the menu,” Dr. Aminu declared, referencing the commission’s commitment to eliminating the traditional and outdated approaches that allowed high-profile criminals to escape justice. The phrase “going veggie” symbolizes the commission’s move away from traditional practices that have, in the past, allowed corruption to flourish unchecked, offering instead a more disciplined and transparent approach to investigations.

The EFCC’s new approach prioritizes data-driven investigative techniques, enhanced transparency, and collaboration with local communities and international partners. With this shift, the commission aims to foster an environment in which corrupt practices are eradicated not through punitive force but through strategic collaboration, accountability, and public support.

“Corruption has long thrived in secrecy,” Dr. Aminu continued. “We are turning the tables, ensuring that no one—no matter their status or connections—can evade justice. This shift to a more sustainable and systematic approach will help us serve the public more effectively while also upholding the highest standards of integrity.”

The “Veggie” shift marks a pivotal change in EFCC’s operational philosophy, a step toward a cleaner, fairer Nigeria. The commission is now placing a stronger focus on preventive measures, education, and reforms aimed at instilling ethical behavior and strengthening the country's governance systems.
