The Labour Party (LP) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take swift and decisive action in reprimanding the spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who recently issued a direct threat to the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
In a statement issued by the Labour Party on Monday, the party condemned the inflammatory and dangerous comments made by the APC spokesman, describing them as "irresponsible" and "unbecoming of a national leader." The statement emphasized that such threats, aimed at intimidating opposition figures, have no place in a democracy and should be condemned by all well-meaning Nigerians.
Labour Party spokespersons stressed that the recent remarks made by the APC spokesman not only jeopardize the peaceful coexistence of Nigerians but also undermine the values of democracy, freedom of speech, and political pluralism. The LP called on President Tinubu to set an example by reprimanding the spokesperson for these provocative comments, which they argue could further deepen political tensions in the country.
“Peter Obi is a law-abiding citizen, and as a leading figure in the opposition, he deserves to be protected from any form of threat or intimidation. The public office should be used to promote peace and unity, not to stir violence or discord,” said the LP spokesperson in the statement.
