In his New Year address to the nation, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced the upcoming launch of a National Values Charter aimed at fostering ethical behavior, national unity, and shared values among Nigerians. The charter, which has already received approval from the Federal Executive Council, is set to be unveiled in the first quarter of 2025.
President Tinubu emphasized the critical role that ethical principles play in achieving national development and societal cohesion. "Citizens' moral rectitude and faith in our country are fundamental to the success of our Renewed Hope Agenda," he stated. The National Values Charter will serve as a guiding framework for promoting patriotism and cooperation between the government and its citizens.
The President outlined that the charter will not only promote mutual commitments but also encourage a culture of trust and collaboration among Nigeria's diverse population. He remarked, "As far-reaching and foundational as our reforms are, they can produce the desired outcomes only through shared common values and identities and unconditional love for our country."
In addition to the National Values Charter, President Tinubu announced plans for a comprehensive national orientation campaign designed to inspire citizens to rally together in pursuit of common goals. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance civic responsibility and ethical standards across all sectors of society.
Furthermore, the President reiterated his administration's commitment to addressing pressing economic challenges, including inflation and food security. He highlighted ongoing efforts aimed at reducing inflation rates from 34.6% to 15% by boosting local food production and manufacturing essential goods.
President Tinubu also announced the commencement of a Youth Confab in early 2025, aimed at engaging young Nigerians as active participants in nation-building. "This is a testament to our commitment to youth inclusiveness and investment as nation-builders," he affirmed.
