In a significant development amidst the ongoing controversy surrounding the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor at the University of Abuja (UniAbuja), members of the university's Governing Council have formally written to the Nigerian Minister of Education, demanding urgent intervention to address alleged irregularities in the selection process.

The letter, which outlines serious concerns regarding the fairness and transparency of the appointment procedure, was prompted by widespread protests from faculty members and stakeholders who claim that the process has been marred by manipulation and breaches of established protocols.

Council members have accused the governing body of bias and procedural violations in selecting a new Vice-Chancellor. These allegations include claims that certain candidates were favored while others were sidelined without proper justification.

The acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Aisha Maikudi, has previously expressed her apprehensions regarding governance issues at the university. In a letter to the Minister dated November 6, 2024, she highlighted actions taken by the Council that could undermine good governance and stability within the institution.

The ongoing crisis has raised alarms about its potential impact on the university's academic environment. Professors and staff have voiced their dissatisfaction, indicating that unresolved governance issues could hinder academic progress and institutional integrity.
