Students at the Nigerian Air Force Institute of Technology (NAFIT) in Kaduna have expressed their deep frustration and concern over the non-payment of their feeding allowance, which has now been outstanding for a staggering twelve months. This prolonged delay has not only affected their daily sustenance but has also severely impacted their academic performance and overall morale.
The feeding allowance, a crucial part of the financial support provided to military students, is intended to cover basic nutritional needs while they pursue their studies. According to the Manual of Financial Administration of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, military students are entitled to a daily Ration Cost Allowance (RCA). However, students have reported that this allowance has not been disbursed for an entire year, leaving many struggling to afford adequate meals.
One student, who wished to remain anonymous for fear of repercussions, stated, “We are not just facing hunger; we are also dealing with the psychological toll it takes on us as future officers. This situation is unacceptable and reflects a lack of respect for our commitment to serve the nation.”
The students have attempted to address this issue through various channels, including formal complaints to the institute's administration and appeals to higher authorities within the Nigerian Air Force. Despite these efforts, there has been little progress or communication regarding the resolution of their grievances.
