Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport in Abuja has been temporarily closed following a crash-landing of an air cargo plane earlier today. The incident, which occurred shortly after the aircraft attempted to land, has led to the closure of the airport’s main runway for safety assessments and recovery operations.
The cargo plane, which was arriving from a regional airport, reportedly encountered technical difficulties, resulting in the emergency landing. Thankfully, all crew members on board have been confirmed safe, with no fatalities or injuries reported. Emergency responders, including fire services and medical teams, were immediately deployed to the scene and worked efficiently to secure the area and ensure the safety of personnel and surrounding infrastructure.
As a result of the crash-landing, the airport authorities have closed the main runway to allow for a full investigation and the necessary recovery and cleaning operations. The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and other relevant agencies are currently examining the cause of the incident and ensuring that the site is cleared for safe operations.
The airport is advising passengers to check with their airlines for updated flight schedules and possible disruptions. Alternative arrangements are being made for those affected by the closure.
