The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has announced that the Warri Refinery, one of the country's key oil processing facilities, has successfully resumed partial operations following a comprehensive revamp. This significant development is part of Nigeria's ongoing efforts to enhance its domestic refining capacity and reduce dependence on imported petroleum products.
The resumption of operations at the Warri Refinery comes after extensive rehabilitation work aimed at overhauling key equipment and upgrading systems to improve efficiency and production output. According to NNPC, the refinery is now processing a portion of its installed capacity, with plans to ramp up operations in the coming months.
NNPC Group Managing Director, Mele Kyari, expressed optimism about the refinery’s revival and its positive impact on Nigeria’s energy sector. "The Warri Refinery’s partial resumption of operations marks a critical milestone in our commitment to enhancing domestic refining capacity and addressing fuel supply challenges in the country. This development will contribute to stabilizing the local market and creating more job opportunities for Nigerians," Kyari said.
The revamped refinery is expected to play a key role in Nigeria’s ongoing energy reforms, reducing the nation's reliance on imports of refined petroleum products and boosting the local economy. NNPC has assured stakeholders that further upgrades will continue in the refinery's other sections, with a view toward full-scale operations in the near future.
