Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has accused the camp of Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), of spreading falsehoods regarding an alleged agreement to rotate the presidency among Kwankwaso, Atiku, and Peter Obi of the Labour Party.
In a statement released today, Kwankwaso vehemently denied claims made by Atiku's camp suggesting that there was a prior agreement between the three presidential candidates to rotate the presidency should they come together to form a coalition. According to Kwankwaso, these allegations are fabricated and aim to mislead the public.
"I categorically deny any such agreement or understanding with Atiku Abubakar or Peter Obi concerning the rotation of the presidency. The claims made by Atiku’s camp are nothing but lies and malicious attempts to tarnish my image and that of my supporters," Kwankwaso stated.
The accusation arose after recent public comments made by spokespersons of Atiku's camp, who suggested that discussions had taken place between the presidential candidates regarding the presidency rotation. Kwankwaso’s camp has refuted these claims, emphasizing that no formal or informal discussions have been held to that effect.
Kwankwaso further accused the Atiku camp of attempting to create confusion and division ahead of the upcoming elections, noting that such tactics are part of a broader strategy to undermine the credibility of his candidacy and his supporters. He reaffirmed his commitment to offering Nigerians a fresh alternative through his vision for a New Nigeria and stressed that his presidential ambition is rooted in providing leadership that addresses the real concerns of ordinary citizens.
"I am not in any arrangement with any individual or group to rotate the presidency. My focus is on building a better, more prosperous Nigeria where all citizens, regardless of their ethnicity or background, can thrive," Kwankwaso emphasized.
