The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has advised the Leader of the UK Conservative Party, Kemi Badenoch, to consider bringing British policemen along on her next official visit to Nigeria. This recommendation follows recent statements made by British lawmakers regarding Nigeria's security and the challenges faced by its citizens, particularly in the context of human rights and governance.

MURIC's Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, stated that the presence of British police officers could serve as an important demonstration of cooperation between the two countries in tackling common issues such as crime, corruption, and ensuring human rights protections. He further emphasized that such a gesture would allow both nations to work together more effectively in areas where there is mutual concern.

“We are aware of the UK government’s interest in the welfare of Nigerians, especially in relation to governance, law enforcement, and security,” Akintola remarked. “Bringing British policemen along on Ms. Badenoch’s next visit would not only show solidarity with Nigeria in its efforts to improve security but also provide a platform for both countries to exchange best practices in policing and law enforcement.”

The MURIC director also called for a balanced approach to addressing human rights concerns in Nigeria. “While we recognize the need to protect the rights of every citizen, it is equally important to acknowledge the complexity of Nigeria’s security challenges, and we believe that the collaborative involvement of British law enforcement officers can contribute positively towards finding practical solutions.”

MURIC’s statement comes amidst ongoing dialogue between Nigerian officials and international leaders, with a focus on enhancing bilateral relations, promoting mutual respect, and fostering security cooperation. As tensions regarding global security and governance continue to rise, MURIC believes that the partnership between Nigeria and the UK should extend beyond diplomatic rhetoric to tangible actions that benefit both nations.
