The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed that three women have tragically lost their lives at the hands of their husbands in separate incidents over the past two months. The disturbing rise in domestic violence cases has prompted local authorities to issue a call for heightened awareness and stronger action to protect women and families from such violent acts.

The Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police, CP Nkeiruka Onyema, reported that the first incident occurred in early September 2024, when a 34-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her husband during a domestic dispute in Abakaliki. The second case was reported in late October 2024, where a 28-year-old woman was found lifeless after an apparent altercation with her husband in a rural community. Most recently, on November 2, 2024, a 40-year-old woman was fatally attacked by her spouse, in what local authorities believe to be another senseless act of domestic violence.

The Police have arrested the three husbands involved in these tragic incidents, and investigations are ongoing in each case. All three suspects are currently in custody and are facing charges of murder and other related offenses.

In light of these events, CP Onyema reiterated the commitment of the Ebonyi State Police Command to uphold the safety and well-being of women in the state. She emphasized the importance of community engagement in preventing domestic violence, encouraging victims to report incidents early and seek assistance from local authorities and support organizations.

"We cannot allow this cycle of violence to continue. It is heartbreaking that these women lost their lives at the hands of those who were supposed to protect and love them," CP Onyema stated. "We call on all members of society to stand against domestic violence and support victims in seeking help."

The Ebonyi State Government, alongside local law enforcement, is also intensifying efforts to raise awareness about domestic violence, providing resources for women in abusive relationships, and ensuring that perpetrators face justice.
