The remains of the late Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, have arrived in Abuja today, marking the beginning of the final farewell to a distinguished leader who served the nation with unwavering dedication.
The body was received at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at precisely 12:16 PM. Following his passing on November 5, 2024, after a protracted illness, the Nigerian Army has arranged a series of memorial events to honor his legacy.
The funeral services will commence today with a Service of Songs scheduled from 5 PM to 7 PM at the Army Headquarters Garrison Parade Ground, Mogadishu Cantonment, Abuja. This service will provide an opportunity for family, friends, and colleagues to pay their respects and celebrate the life of a man who made significant contributions to Nigeria's security framework.
Tomorrow, November 15, 2024, a Funeral Service will be held at the National Christian Centre, Abuja from 10 AM to 12:45 PM. This will be followed by a Military Parade and interment at the National Military Cemetery, where Lt. Gen. Lagbaja will be laid to rest between 2 PM and 6 PM.
Maj Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, emphasized that Lagbaja's commitment to advancing the capabilities and values of the Nigerian Army left a lasting legacy that will inspire future generations. He is survived by his wife, children, siblings, and extended family members.
