In a significant administrative move, Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo has officially dissolved the Governing Councils of all state-owned tertiary institutions in Edo State, including the Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma. This decision was communicated in a special government announcement dated November 20, 2024.
The dissolution of the governing councils is effective immediately. All affected members are required to hand over any government properties in their possession to the heads of their respective institutions. This action is part of a broader strategy aimed at restructuring and enhancing the governance of educational institutions in the state.
In conjunction with this announcement, Governor Okpebholo has also approved the disengagement of management staff from two key state hospitals: Edo Specialist Hospital and Stella Obasanjo Hospital, both located in Benin City. The management staff are similarly instructed to return all government properties to the most senior officer within their institutions.
These decisions were conveyed through a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, and shared with the public by Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor.
