The Abia State Government has allocated a total of N1.5 billion for the purchase of new vehicles for members of the State House of Assembly over the past three months, underscoring the administration’s ongoing commitment to enhancing legislative productivity and infrastructure. In addition, N300 million has been earmarked for the repair and rehabilitation of public schools across the state to improve the learning environment for students.
The N1.5 billion expenditure for lawmakers' vehicles is part of the government's strategy to ensure effective representation and mobility for elected officials, facilitating their ability to serve their constituents and execute legislative duties efficiently.
In a statement, the Governor remarked, “A well-equipped legislature is fundamental to the growth and progress of any state. By providing our lawmakers with the necessary tools to perform their duties, we are strengthening democratic processes and ensuring that our state remains on the path of sustainable development.”
In parallel, the state government has earmarked N300 million to improve public schools within the state. This funding will go toward the renovation of dilapidated school buildings, provision of new learning materials, and the upgrading of essential facilities to create a more conducive environment for students.
“Education is a key pillar in our administration’s agenda. We understand that investing in the future of our children is investing in the future of Abia State. The repairs and renovations are expected to cover both primary and secondary schools across the state, with priority given to schools in dire need of urgent attention. The State Ministry of Education will oversee the implementation of the repairs, ensuring that the funds are utilized judiciously to achieve the intended outcomes.
