The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has categorically dismissed the claims made by the All Progressives Congress (APC) alleging that Governor Godwin Obaseki and the People's Democratic Party (PDP) smuggled Biometric Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines and voters’ registers into the INEC office in Edo State. The commission has labeled these allegations as "baseless" and "without proof."
In a statement issued by Dr. Anugbum Onuoha, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Edo State, INEC emphasized its commitment to transparency and integrity in the electoral process. The commission clarified that it has not obstructed any political party from inspecting election materials, including BVAS devices, used in the recent governorship election.
"The allegations made by the APC are misleading and devoid of truth," said Dr. Onuoha. "At no point did I or any official in my office deny access to any political party or their representatives for the inspection of election materials. We have scheduled a formal inspection of these materials, ensuring that all parties can participate in accordance with legal procedures."
Dr. Onuoha further urged all stakeholders to disregard the misinformation circulating regarding the commission’s operations. He reiterated that INEC is dedicated to upholding the highest standards of electoral fairness and accountability.
"The integrity of our electoral processes is paramount," he stated. "We invite all political parties to engage with us through the appropriate legal channels to ensure that their rights are respected."
INEC remains steadfast in its mission to serve the Nigerian people and uphold democratic principles. The commission encourages any party with concerns to approach it directly rather than resorting to unverified claims.
