Nigerian Activist Dies Suddenly After Slumping in Lagos

The Nigerian civil rights community is mourning the sudden loss of a beloved activist who tragically collapsed and died outside her home in Lagos on Saturday evening.







Comrade Obawolu Adedoja Aanu, a passionate advocate for social justice and human rights, was found slumped at the entrance of her residence shortly after returning from her daily activities. Despite efforts to revive her, she was pronounced dead on the scene. She was 58 years old.







Known for her fearless dedication to defending the marginalized and holding authorities accountable, Comrade Aanu was an influential figure in several civil society organizations, including the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR). Her tireless work and commitment inspired many across Nigeria, making her passing a heavy loss to the activist community.







Her death is a sobering reminder of the pressures and challenges faced by those who bravely stand up for justice and equity in Nigeria today. Colleagues and friends have expressed deep grief and called for continued support for human rights defenders who carry forward the legacy she passionately championed.
