The Labour Party (LP) has issued a stern 48-hour ultimatum to its former presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Gregory Obi, demanding his formal resignation from the party following his alignment with a newly formed opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a statement released by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, the LP distanced itself from the coalition, describing its members as “desperate power mongers” and asserting that “a new Nigeria cannot be built on the foundation of old, recycled and frustrated politicians.”

“Labour Party has consistently said it is not part of the coalition,” Ifoh stated. “Therefore, any of our members who is part of the coalition is given within 48 hours to formally resign his membership of the party.”

The party accused Mr. Obi of holding clandestine meetings aimed at persuading LP members to defect with him to the coalition. It emphasized that several members have resisted such overtures, reaffirming their loyalty to the Labour Party’s vision.

The statement further warned against “dual allegiance,” stressing that the LP will not tolerate individuals with “one leg in, one leg out.” It called on all party faithful to remain committed to the party’s ideals and structure as preparations for future elections intensify.
