Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has firmly dispelled speculation surrounding his political allegiance, declaring unequivocally that he remains a committed member of the Labour Party (LP) and has no intention of joining the newly formed opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaking during an interactive session with members of the Abia State Global Economic Council in Umuahia, Governor Otti addressed the swirling rumors linking him to the coalition aimed at challenging the current federal administration in the 2027 elections. “You have a right to dream. I also have the right to state that I’m still a member of the Labour Party and I’m not looking for where to decamp to,” he stated.
The governor emphasized that neither he nor any member of his administration has attended any coalition meetings, nor have they received invitations to do so. “We are busy doing the work that Abia people have given us. We are not attending any coalition meeting. I have not attended one. Nobody has invited me,” he added.
Governor Otti acknowledged past internal challenges within the Labour Party but expressed confidence in the party’s resilience and legal victories. “Yes, we had issues… we fought all the way to the Supreme Court and retrieved our party. You don’t run away from problems—you solve them,” he said during a dinner event marking the inauguration of the Abia State Global Economic Advisory Council.
