Former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, is reportedly recuperating in London after receiving treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) of a UK hospital during a recent medical trip.
According to multiple reports, Buhari fell ill while undergoing a routine medical check-up in the United Kingdom and was subsequently admitted to the ICU for several days. Though the specific nature of his ailment has not been disclosed, sources close to the former president confirm that he has since been discharged and is steadily recovering.
The health scare led to Buhari’s absence from the 50th anniversary celebration of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) held in Lagos on May 28. In a letter addressed to President Bola Tinubu, Buhari cited his medical commitments in the UK as the reason for his inability to attend the event.
Also reported to be convalescing in the UK is Mamman Daura, Buhari’s uncle and longtime confidant, who is said to be receiving medical care as well.
The former president is expected to return to Nigeria once he has made a full recovery. His office has not issued an official statement, but close associates have expressed optimism about his improving condition.
