In a significant political shift, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The announcement was made during a formal event at the Government House in Uyo, attended by key APC leaders and governors from across the country.

Governor Eno, who has served under the PDP, stated that his decision followed months of extensive consultations with political stakeholders. Speaking at a town hall meeting in Ikot Abasi earlier this week, he emphasized the need to align Akwa Ibom with the ruling party at the federal level, describing the move as a strategic step for the state’s development.

The defection ceremony saw the presence of prominent APC governors, including Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, and Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, among others. The event was marked by celebrations and speeches welcoming Governor Eno into the APC fold.

Governor Eno expressed gratitude to the PDP for the platform it provided him but reiterated his commitment to working with the APC to advance the interests of Akwa Ibom. “We must be able to interpret the times and flow with the tide,” he stated, highlighting his vision for the state’s future under the APC.
