In a landmark effort to tackle the pressing issues of insecurity and widespread poverty across Northern Nigeria, the Northern Governors Forum, in collaboration with the region’s traditional rulers, convened today in Kaduna for a high-level strategic meeting.

The summit, hosted by Kaduna State Governor Senator Uba Sani, brought together 19 governors from the northern states, key emirs, and traditional leaders, along with senior representatives of the military, police, and civil society. The meeting focused on crafting a unified regional response to persistent security threats, economic stagnation, youth unemployment, and the humanitarian crisis afflicting many communities in the North.

Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, emphasized the need for urgent, coordinated action. “The time has come for us to rise above political and ethnic divisions to secure the future of our people. We must address the root causes of insecurity—poverty, illiteracy, and lack of opportunity—with unity and resolve,” he said.

Traditional leaders, led by the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, echoed the call for peace and inclusiveness. “Our people look up to us not only as custodians of culture but also as guardians of their welfare. We must work together with elected officials to restore hope and security,” the Sultan stated.
