The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has officially launched a new digital platform designed to enable Nigerians living abroad to obtain their Bank Verification Number (BVN) without having to travel back to the country. This initiative is part of the CBN’s ongoing commitment to financial inclusion and modernization of the Nigerian banking system.

The BVN is a biometric identification system introduced by the CBN to curb fraud and streamline banking operations across Nigeria. Previously, Nigerians in the diaspora faced significant challenges in obtaining this critical identifier, often requiring them to physically visit Nigeria or a few select international bank locations.

The newly launched platform eliminates these barriers by allowing remote registration through secure online channels, supported by biometric verification via accredited Nigerian embassies, consulates, and selected partner institutions globally.

CBN Governor said "This is a significant milestone in our efforts to integrate Nigerians in the diaspora into the national financial system. The new platform enhances accessibility, reduces the cost and stress of BVN enrollment, and deepens trust in our financial services."

The platform ensures secure data handling, complies with global standards for identity verification, and supports the CBN’s broader objectives of fostering economic participation and improving remittance channels.
