The Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs confirms that 99 Indonesian pilgrims participating in this year’s Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia have contracted pneumonia. Tragically, one pilgrim has died due to complications arising from the illness.
The Ministry, in close coordination with the Indonesian Hajj Health Office and Saudi health authorities, is actively monitoring and treating the affected individuals. Most of the patients are currently receiving medical care in Saudi hospitals and health clinics designated for Hajj pilgrims.
“We are deeply saddened to report the passing of one of our pilgrims. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones,” said Dr. Hilman Latief, Director General of Hajj and Umrah. “We are committed to ensuring the best possible care for all affected pilgrims and are working tirelessly with local health authorities to manage the situation.”
Pneumonia remains one of the most common health issues faced by pilgrims during Hajj due to fatigue, exposure to extreme heat, and crowded conditions that can spread infectious diseases. The Ministry has reiterated the importance of wearing masks, staying hydrated, and seeking immediate medical attention at the onset of symptoms.
