Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has issued a scathing critique of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration, asserting that it has come to "bury Nigeria" following what he describes as the "destruction" of the country under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking during a press conference held in Abuja on Tuesday, Sowore declared that the nation has reached a critical tipping point and must now prepare for a people-led revolution to reclaim its future.
“In 2023, Nigerians thought the worst had passed with the exit of Buhari. But what we have now is a regime that has not only continued his legacy of corruption, impunity, and repression—but has accelerated it. Tinubu's government came not to rescue Nigeria but to deliver the final blow,” Sowore stated.
He cited ongoing economic hardship, rising insecurity, suppression of dissent, and lack of transparency as hallmarks of what he called a "moribund and illegitimate regime."
Sowore, who has long been an outspoken advocate for systemic change, reiterated his call for mass mobilization and civil resistance, insisting that only a grassroots revolution can restore hope and accountability to the Nigerian state.
“The people must rise. We cannot afford to be spectators anymore. If Buhari killed Nigeria, Tinubu is here to bury it. But we, the Nigerian people, must refuse to let that happen. It is time to take our destiny into our own hands.”
