The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has confirmed a fire incident involving a LagFerry vessel, “Igbega Eko,” at approximately 6:45 AM today at the Ipakodo Ferry Terminal in Ikorodu. The vessel, en route to Victoria Island, experienced a sudden explosion and burst into flames, leading to injuries among passengers.

Upon receiving the distress call, LASWA’s emergency response team swiftly mobilized to the scene, working in close coordination with LagFerry personnel, boat operators, and other first responders to manage the situation effectively. All passengers and crew members were safely evacuated, though four passengers sustained minor injuries and are currently receiving medical attention.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with LASWA collaborating closely with LagFerry and other stakeholders to conduct a thorough assessment. The agency has reiterated its commitment to safety and pledged to implement necessary measures to enhance fire prevention across Lagos waterways.

LASWA assures the public that all safety protocols remain intact, and ferry operations are proceeding as scheduled. Passengers are encouraged to stay calm and adhere to safety guidelines while enjoying the waterways.
