In a somber address to the public, Governor Caleb Muftwang of Plateau State has raised alarm over the ongoing violence in the region, declaring that what he described as a "genocide" is unfolding in the state. The Governor disclosed that a staggering 64 communities in Plateau are now under the control of terrorist groups, with civilians living in constant fear of attacks, displacement, and loss of life.

Governor Muftwang's statement comes in the wake of escalating violence perpetrated by armed groups in several parts of the state, which has led to significant loss of life, destruction of properties, and mass displacements. The Governor condemned the persistent terrorist activities in the region and called on both the federal and state governments to take urgent and decisive action to restore peace and security to Plateau.

“The people of Plateau are living through a nightmare. This is not just violence; it is genocide,” Governor Muftwang declared, emphasizing the grave humanitarian crisis caused by the ongoing attacks. He revealed that entire communities have been forced to flee their homes, leaving them vulnerable to starvation, lack of medical care, and exposure to further violence.

According to the Governor, the insurgent groups, which have long been operating in the region, have now established full control over dozens of villages, effectively cutting off access to basic services and supplies. Governor Muftwang expressed his concern over the inability of security agencies to regain control of the affected areas, despite efforts to curb the insurgency.

“While our people suffer, the terrorists continue to strengthen their grip on these communities, using them as strongholds for further expansion. We cannot stand idly by while this genocide unfolds,” he stated.

Governor Muftwang called on the federal government to deploy additional security forces and provide necessary support to the state’s security agencies to reclaim the occupied territories. He also urged international organizations and humanitarian agencies to assist in providing aid to displaced persons and those affected by the violence.
