The Coalition of Democratic Women Advocates (CODWA) vehemently condemns the recent suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and asserts that such action is unjust, politically motivated, and will not stand. In a statement issued earlier today, the civic organisation called for the immediate reinstatement of Senator Natasha and demanded that Senate President Godswill Akpabio step down to allow for a thorough and impartial investigation into the matter.

CODWA expresses deep concern over the growing trend of political persecution aimed at silencing dissenting voices and stifling democracy. Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, a prominent advocate for women’s rights and social justice, has consistently stood for the people of Kogi State and the nation as a whole. Her suspension from the Senate, following her vocal criticisms of policies that undermine the welfare of citizens, is a clear attempt to muzzle a strong and principled leader.

“The suspension of Senator Natasha is an affront to the democratic process and a direct attack on freedom of speech within our legislative framework,” said the spokesperson of CODWA. “We see this as part of a larger scheme to intimidate lawmakers who are not afraid to challenge the status quo and speak truth to power. It is inexcusable and cannot be allowed to stand.”

In light of the serious allegations surrounding Senator Natasha's suspension, CODWA is calling for Senate President Akpabio to step aside and allow a transparent and independent investigation into the events that led to the suspension. This is necessary to ensure that justice is served and to restore the integrity of the Senate.

“We demand accountability from our leaders,” the statement continued. “Senate President Akpabio’s continued hold on office while these grave allegations remain unresolved is unacceptable. He must step down to allow for a fair investigation, as only through such action can the Senate regain the trust and confidence of the people it serves.”
