A petition seeking the recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from the Nigerian Senate has been formally submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The petition, signed by over 250,000 constituents from Kogi Central Senatorial District, was received by INEC Secretary Rose Oriaran-Anthony earlier today.

The petitioners, represented by Charity Omole, cited "loss of confidence" in Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan due to allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office. Omole emphasized the urgency of the recall process, stating, "We cannot afford to be without representation in the Senate. This petition reflects the will of the people who voted her into office."

According to the petitioners, the signatures collected represent more than half of the registered voters in Kogi Central, meeting the constitutional threshold required to initiate a recall process. The petitioners have called on INEC to verify the signatures and commence the procedural steps outlined in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who was recently suspended from the Senate, has not yet issued a public statement regarding the recall petition. INEC has acknowledged receipt of the petition and is expected to announce the next steps in the coming days.
