The Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has formally petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the alleged misappropriation of $20 million in state funds during the tenure of his predecessor, former Governor Gboyega Oyetola.
The petition, which was submitted on Friday, seeks a thorough investigation into the financial dealings of the Oyetola administration, specifically highlighting irregularities in the management of public funds. The allegations center around the unexplained diversion of significant state resources during the final years of Oyetola's tenure.
Governor Adeleke, in the petition, outlined details of the alleged financial mismanagement, asserting that funds intended for key development projects and public welfare programs were diverted, which directly impacted the well-being of Osun residents. The petition calls for an urgent investigation by the EFCC to determine the extent of the alleged misappropriation and hold the responsible parties accountable.
Governor Adeleke expressed his firm commitment to ensuring that public office holders are held to the highest standards of transparency and accountability. He emphasized that his administration would not tolerate any acts of financial corruption and that justice must be served for the people of Osun State.
“This petition is a step towards securing justice for the people of Osun State,” Governor Adeleke said. “The $20 million alleged misappropriation represents a severe breach of trust, and we will continue to work with the EFCC to ensure that all those involved are brought to account. My administration will always prioritize the welfare of our people and will do everything in our power to ensure that public funds are used for their intended purposes.”
