In a significant move aimed at ensuring a more streamlined and effective policing system, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Nigeria, Usman Alkali Egbetokun, has issued a directive that the rank of Aide-De-Camps (ADC) to State Governors must not exceed that of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).

The new policy, announced earlier today, is part of ongoing efforts to restructure and optimize the operational structure of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF). Under this directive, officers who are appointed as ADCs to governors will be strictly required to hold no higher than the DSP rank, regardless of their seniority or service history.

IGP Egbetokun emphasized that the move is in line with the police force's commitment to reinforcing professionalism, accountability, and discipline within its ranks. He explained that the decision was reached after careful consideration of the need to ensure proper command structures within the police, while eliminating any potential for undue influence or conflicts of interest in the relationship between the police force and state governors.

The IGP further clarified that the policy is designed to maintain balance and accountability by preventing situations where an ADC might exert undue influence over a state governor due to rank. According to IGP Egbetokun, this adjustment is not a demotion but rather an effort to establish clearer hierarchies and responsibilities within the police service.

Reacting to the announcement, sources within the Nigeria Police Force have expressed general support for the decision, noting that the change will help reduce unnecessary tensions and competition among officers and contribute to a more harmonious work environment.
