In a bid to enhance urban development and improve pedestrian safety, the Lagos State Government has carried out a demolition operation targeting illegal shops and structures attached to the pedestrian bridge. The initiative is part of the government’s larger urban renewal and infrastructural upgrade program aimed at decongesting major pedestrian pathways and ensuring safer, more efficient movement across the city.
The demolition, which took place earlier today, was in accordance with the state’s policies to clear obstructive structures that hinder smooth pedestrian traffic flow, as well as to prevent the encroachment of commercial activities in non-designated areas. Several shops, which had been set up illegally on the bridge’s walkways, were removed to restore the original design and functionality of the public space.
“We are committed to improving the quality of life for Lagosians by ensuring that our public spaces are well-maintained and accessible to all,” Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development. “This demolition is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the pedestrian experience, prevent safety hazards, and facilitate urban regeneration in critical parts of the city.”
