It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Doyin Okupe, a prominent Nigerian politician and former aide to two Nigerian Presidents, Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan. He died at the age of 72 after a prolonged illness.


Okupe was a key figure in Nigerian politics, serving as the Senior Special Assistant to President Olusegun Obasanjo on Public Affairs from 2003 to 2007 and later as the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to President Goodluck Jonathan from 2011 to 2015. He was known for his passionate and sometimes controversial public statements and for playing a crucial role in shaping communication strategies during both administrations.


Born in Ogun State in 1953, Doyin Okupe had an illustrious career spanning several decades. He was recognized for his steadfast dedication to public service, and his role in the Nigerian political landscape made him a highly influential figure. In addition to his positions as an aide, Okupe was a former member of the House of Representatives, where he represented the Idoko/Abuja Federal Constituency.


Okupe’s contributions were not limited to his roles in government. He was also a committed advocate for Nigeria’s democratic processes and economic development. His involvement in media, public relations, and political communication established him as a well-respected voice in Nigerian politics.
