Former lawmaker and political analyst, Hon. Idahosa, has strongly condemned the recent suspension of Senator Natasha by the Nigerian Senate, calling it a “predetermined and politically motivated decision.”
In a statement released earlier today, Hon. Idahosa expressed deep concern over what he described as the Senate's “unjust and undemocratic actions” against Senator Natasha. He accused the Senate leadership of using the suspension as a tool for political retribution, stating that the decision to suspend the senator was made long before the formal proceedings, making the process appear biased and unfair.
"This suspension is a clear example of how political elites manipulate the system to silence dissenting voices," Hon. Idahosa said. “The Senate's action was neither a result of an impartial investigation nor a fair hearing. It was predetermined, designed to stifle the opinions of a senator who has dared to challenge the status quo.”
Hon. Idahosa further emphasized that such actions undermine the principles of democracy, particularly the right to free speech and the ability of elected officials to represent their constituents without fear of reprisal. He called on the Nigerian public and the international community to take note of the Senate's actions and to hold the lawmakers accountable for what he termed a breach of constitutional rights.
“This is a dangerous precedent that sets the stage for further erosion of democratic practices in Nigeria. The Senate must immediately reverse this suspension and ensure that future actions are in line with the values of justice and fairness that are enshrined in our constitution,” he added.
