The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) today re-arraigned the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Colonel Sambo Dasuki (rtd.), alongside a former Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mr. Shehu Koko, over allegations of involvement in a fraudulent arms procurement deal valued at N33 billion.

The duo, who were previously arraigned on similar charges, appeared before the Federal High Court in Abuja to face fresh charges, with the EFCC accusing them of misappropriating the funds meant for the procurement of arms for Nigeria’s military.

Colonel Dasuki, who served as NSA under former President Goodluck Jonathan, is accused of diverting substantial funds intended for national security purposes. Mr. Koko, former Director at NNPC, is alleged to have been complicit in the fraudulent disbursement of N33 billion, which was reportedly funneled through various transactions intended to secure arms for the country’s defense forces.

The EFCC’s re-arraignment follows the discovery of new evidence and further investigation into the financial mismanagement and corruption linked to the arms deal. According to the prosecution, the accused individuals exploited their positions to siphon the funds, which were diverted for personal gain rather than their intended military use.

The court proceedings have attracted significant attention as they highlight the ongoing efforts by the EFCC to combat corruption within Nigeria's government institutions, particularly within the defense and oil sectors.

Justice Ahmed Ramat Mohammed, presiding over the case, has adjourned the matter for further hearings, with the EFCC expected to present more evidence in the coming weeks.
