An aide to Delta State lawmaker, Hon. Ferguson Onwo, has tendered his resignation, citing frustrations over an alleged N30,000 monthly salary and the non-payment of his wages for several months. The aide, whose identity has not been disclosed, expressed disillusionment with the working conditions and lack of timely financial compensation, despite his dedicated service in support of the lawmaker’s legislative duties.

In a resignation letter submitted to Hon. Onwo’s office, the aide detailed his grievances, emphasizing the economic hardship that has resulted from unpaid salaries. The aide further accused the office of failing to meet financial obligations to its staff, despite repeated promises to settle the outstanding payments.

“The treatment I’ve received is a direct reflection of the systemic challenges faced by many legislative aides who work tirelessly but are not adequately compensated for their efforts,” the aide stated. “It is disheartening that after months of service, I am left with no other option but to tender my resignation due to unmet financial commitments.”

The aide’s resignation brings to light ongoing concerns about the welfare of legislative assistants and the financial constraints under which many aides operate. It also raises important questions regarding the management of public office resources, and the necessity for greater transparency and accountability in the remuneration of political staff.

Efforts to reach Hon. Ferguson Onwo for comment on the matter have yet to receive a response. However, sources within the legislative body have acknowledged that such issues are not uncommon, with aides often struggling to receive their rightful pay on time.
