Former Vice President and presidential aspirant, Atiku Abubakar, has officially confirmed his coalition with former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, and former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, among other influential political figures, in preparation for the 2027 general election. The alliance aims to present a formidable opposition force with the singular goal of ousting incumbent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from office.

In a highly anticipated press statement, Atiku expressed his belief that a united opposition is essential to offering Nigerians an alternative government that prioritizes national unity, economic revitalization, and security. The coalition, which is expected to broaden in the coming months, seeks to consolidate support from a wide range of political parties, regional stakeholders, and civil society organizations.

“At this crucial moment in Nigeria's history, it is imperative that we come together as one voice to offer our people a leadership that understands their challenges and is committed to meaningful change,” Atiku said in his address. “Our collective efforts, alongside other patriots and leaders across the country, will ensure that the people’s will is respected in the 2027 elections.”

The coalition, which already includes Peter Obi, a former presidential candidate, and Nasir El-Rufai, a prominent political figure, is expected to leverage its shared vision for a more democratic, transparent, and economically robust Nigeria. Together, they aim to build a broad-based coalition that transcends partisan divisions, with an emphasis on the collective good of the Nigerian people.

“This is not just about politics; it is about Nigeria’s future. We must address the issues that matter most to Nigerians, from economic prosperity to national security,” Atiku added.

While the formalities of the coalition are still being finalized, the key figures in the alliance have made it clear that their combined efforts will focus on offering Nigerians a leadership that is accountable, visionary, and capable of bringing about the long-overdue reforms the country needs.

The political dynamics leading up to the 2027 election will see a series of strategic collaborations and alliances as opposition groups seek to challenge the continued dominance of the ruling party under President Tinubu’s leadership.
