On the occasion of World Radio Day, Kebbi State Governor, Alhaji Atiku Bagudu, has extended his praise and appreciation to radio stations across the country for their vital role in promoting democracy, peace, and unity within Nigeria and beyond.

In a statement released today, Governor Bagudu highlighted the transformative power of radio as an effective and accessible medium of communication, especially in rural areas where it has a significant impact on promoting civic engagement and social cohesion.

"Radio remains one of the most powerful tools in shaping the public's understanding of governance, policy, and democratic values," Governor Bagudu said. "Its role in fostering dialogue, raising awareness on human rights, and promoting peaceful coexistence cannot be overstated."

This year’s World Radio Day theme, "Radio and Democracy," underscores the essential role that media platforms play in strengthening democratic processes by providing a space for debate, discussion, and information dissemination.

Governor Bagudu acknowledged the efforts of radio stations in Kebbi State and across Nigeria for their continued dedication to these ideals, particularly in supporting free speech and spreading messages of peace and tolerance. He emphasized the state's commitment to collaborating with media outlets in fostering a healthy democratic environment that empowers citizens to actively participate in nation-building.

“The media, particularly radio, has been instrumental in enhancing democratic values by providing an avenue for diverse voices to be heard and creating platforms for peaceful discourse,” the Governor added.

The Governor further reiterated that radio will continue to be an essential tool in the fight against misinformation and in promoting informed decisions that can help sustain the nation’s democracy.

Governor Bagudu also congratulated radio practitioners, journalists, and other stakeholders for their contributions to the growth and advancement of Nigeria’s media landscape.
