The Department of State Services (DSS) has successfully carried out a raid in an office allegedly linked to the security aide of the former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa. During the operation, a significant cache of firearms and ammunition was discovered, raising concerns over the potential misuse of these weapons.

The raid, executed after weeks of intelligence gathering, resulted in the seizure of several high-powered guns, including assault rifles, along with a large quantity of live ammunition. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the weapons, which were reportedly stored in the office of the ex-Speaker’s security aide, whose identity has not been disclosed.

The DSS has confirmed that the recovery is part of a broader investigation into illegal arms trafficking and the potential use of these weapons in criminal activities. The discovery has led to heightened security alerts, particularly in the Lagos area, and local authorities are working in conjunction with national security agencies to fully assess the situation.

“This recovery underscores our ongoing commitment to ensuring public safety and combating the proliferation of illegal arms across the country,” stated an official from the DSS. “We will continue our efforts to dismantle any networks involved in illegal arms possession and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.”

While the investigation continues, the former Speaker, Hon. Obasa, has denied any involvement with the recovered weapons, asserting that the situation is a personal matter related to his aide. Legal experts and political observers, however, are calling for a thorough and transparent inquiry to clarify the connections between the recovered arms and any possible security concerns related to the former Speaker’s office.
