The Ogun State Police Command has publicly responded to a petition submitted by certain residents of Ogun, which was addressed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. Olukayode Egbetokun, accusing the police of extorting N5 million from them. The police, however, have firmly denied the allegations and instead accused the petitioners of fabricating false claims to cover up their own criminal activities.

According to the police statement, the petitioners are involved in the theft of goods valued at N100 million from a shipping container in Ogun State. The stolen goods, the police allege, were taken from a container in transit, and the accused residents are alleged to have orchestrated the theft, which has been linked to several criminal activities in the area.

The Ogun State Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police (CP), Adedeji Oladimeji, has vehemently denied the claims made in the petition filed with the IGP, stating that the allegations of extortion to the tune of N5 million are completely false and without merit. They assert that the petitioners are attempting to deflect attention from their involvement in the theft of the goods.

A senior police official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said, "We categorically deny the extortion claims and will not be intimidated by baseless accusations. Our investigation has revealed that the petitioners are directly linked to the theft of the N100 million worth of goods, and these individuals are now attempting to divert attention by making false allegations."
