The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has officially withdrawn its corps members from a community in Benue State following a series of deadly attacks by armed herders that have escalated in the area. This decision comes after a thorough assessment of the security situation, in which the safety and well-being of corps members were deemed to be at significant risk.
The recent surge in violence, which has resulted in loss of lives and widespread destruction, has raised serious concerns regarding the security of residents, including the corps members serving in the affected community. In response to these threats, the NYSC has decided to relocate all personnel to safer areas, effective immediately.
NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, expressed deep concern over the violence and extended his condolences to the families of those affected by the attacks. "The safety of our corps members is of paramount importance, and we cannot allow them to remain in an environment where their lives are under constant threat. The decision to withdraw our personnel was taken after consulting with relevant security agencies," he stated.
The NYSC leadership is closely monitoring the situation and is working with state authorities, security agencies, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the safety and well-being of all corps members. Furthermore, the NYSC assures the public that it remains committed to maintaining the welfare of its members, particularly in conflict-affected regions, while encouraging those serving in other parts of the country to stay vigilant and adhere to safety protocols.
