The Osun State Government has reiterated its commitment to conducting local council elections as scheduled, despite the recent withdrawal of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the electoral process. The government has assured the public that the elections will proceed in line with the state’s constitutional obligations to ensure democracy at the grassroots level.

In a statement issued by the state’s Commissioner for Information, the government emphasized that the elections are vital for the smooth operation of local government structures and for fostering greater democratic participation among Osun residents. The commissioner also expressed that the state electoral body had completed all necessary preparations, and the elections would take place on the established date, with or without the participation of any political party.

“The elections are not about any single party, but about giving the people of Osun the opportunity to elect their local leaders and representatives. We have ensured that all protocols are in place for a free, fair, and transparent process, and we will not allow political maneuvering to hinder the democratic will of our people,” the statement read.

The APC had announced its withdrawal from the elections, citing concerns about the process, but the state government has dismissed these claims, affirming that all legal and procedural requirements for the elections have been met. The government also assured that all security arrangements have been made to ensure a peaceful election day.
