In a bid to enhance the financial well-being of people with disabilities (PWDs), the Minister of Finance has proposed significant relief measures and incentives in the upcoming tax reforms. The initiative seeks to ensure greater economic inclusion and support for PWDs, addressing the unique challenges they face in daily life.
Speaking at a press conference earlier today, the Minister outlined plans to introduce targeted tax breaks, including higher tax exemptions, and increased deductions for families and caregivers of individuals with disabilities. These measures are expected to ease the financial burden on PWDs and their families, while encouraging employers to hire and retain individuals with disabilities through additional tax incentives.
“We recognize that the financial difficulties faced by PWDs are compounded by barriers to employment, access to services, and specialized care,” the Minister said. “This tax reform package aims to provide meaningful relief and create a more inclusive society where PWDs can thrive economically.”
The proposed reforms also include the introduction of tax credits for businesses that implement accessibility measures in their operations, as well as incentives for industries that support PWD employment initiatives. These provisions are expected to promote diversity in the workforce, while also enhancing accessibility in public and private spaces.
Additionally, the Ministry plans to engage in consultations with disability advocacy groups to ensure that the reforms are responsive to the real-world needs of the PWD community. The government is committed to working closely with stakeholders to ensure that the tax system better reflects the realities of living with a disability.
This initiative forms part of a broader strategy to achieve greater economic equity and social justice for all citizens, irrespective of their physical or mental conditions. The Minister urged lawmakers to support the proposed tax reforms, highlighting their importance in creating a society where PWDs have equal access to opportunities and support.
